PEACE

The rhythm in my ears echoes the concerning words in the human world, especially when faced with difficulty. I hear words like, “I carry a burden that feels too heavy. Why do I feel stuck, left behind? Why is my path filled with so many hurdles?”

These words and the pain behind them come from a place of deep reflection that stirs up a longing within me – a longing I call “PEACE”.

What is peace?

Peace is what I call an absolute calmness, strength in chaos, and sanity in the heart of the storm. It is just like a garment that brings you stillness – it can’t be seen but felt.

Peace and chaos, which gets more exercised?

Naturally, it’s chaos.

You may not accept this fact at first but pause for a moment. Try writing down ninety – nine words that flash through your mind in a second. What do you see?

They may be fears, anxieties, lists, distractions, and doubts.

The truth is, we live in a world that doesn’t make room for calm. Everything and everyone succumbs to busyness – unless you choose otherwise. Unless you take your peace. Unless you own it!

Own my peace? How?

Rick Warren says “Peace is not the absence of problems. Peace is the presence of God”. And what does that mean? It means inner peace doesn’t come from having a life without challenges or difficulties. Instead, it flows from your connection with God.

Owning your peace works the same way – it requires being deeply and intentionally connected to God. Such that, you can experience a deep sense of calm and assurance regardless of what goes on around you.

I know the mind loves to wander. But instead of letting it have its way, why not guide it toward God’s wonder? Let it dwell on His promises, and reflect on the beauty of His truth.

Let’s consider this:

How do you also hold onto negative thoughts? It usually starts as a seed and when you give it a chance to stay, it expands in parts and spreads into germinating fruits.

Yeah, and that’s how peace works too.

You choose it, you intentionally own it until it becomes an active force within you.

How does it become an active force within me?

As mentioned earlier, true peace can only be found in God. The kind of peace that stays active within you is sustained by Him. It becomes an active force when you let Go and let God – you release control and trust God’s sovereignty always.

So, are you saying I shouldn’t think?

Nah. You are a living, breathing being – You have to think!

You should and must think, but what you think about really matters.

In a world of distractions and noise, train your mind to rise above.

Feed it with thoughts that are beautiful, pure, lovely, true, and honest.

Don’t just see problems – seek solutions. And, always focus on what lies ahead.

Does peace come with an exact location?

No, it doesn’t.

There are times you may need to check for a quiet place but peace isn’t limited by your surroundings. It resides within you – you can carry it anywhere.

I once told a dear sister some years ago that regardless of how noisy a place may be, I try to create my own space and make the most of the moment. That’s possible because peace starts with the mind; it must firstly be embraced in the mind before being expressed outwardly. Such that you can now take your steps in a relaxed mode.

Bhiholu, what then are you saying?

What I am saying is this:

You deserve a relaxed state of mind.

In our world, peace is often overlooked, but that doesn’t make it less necessary.

The world won’t stop being busy but you can drink from your overflowing cup of peace and stay grounded.

Moreover, you can only make the right decisions and take the right steps when you are still.

So, right now, pause. Breathe.

Embrace the peace of the moment.

And, this time, don’t let it go – live in it and exercise it often.
